Jim and Debbi Hammond

Jim became Executive Director of Gospel Volunteers, Inc. on August 1, 2005. Jim, his wife, Debbi, and two of their children, Eden and Zach, relocated from Chandler, AZ where Jim spent most of his career with corporate giants General Dynamics and Motorola. Jim is a dynamic executive with a heart for ministry and Debbi is a gifted Bible teacher who taught a Bible class of 300 while they lived in Arizona. Jim and Debbi have four children and 2 grandchildren.

Angie Armstrong

Angie is our Tapawingo Director. She graduated from Tyndale University College and Seminary in Toronto, Canada with a degree in General Ministries. During her college days she worked in a group home with physically and mentally disabled adults. She also is a graduate of LIFT and worked as a counselor on the island for three summers. Camp Tapawingo holds a special place in her heart and her prayer is that Tapawingo continues to be a safe place for girls while they grow to discover who God is and who He has called them to be. She and her husband Mike were married in the spring of 2006 and are both native to Ontario, Canada.

Adam Carr

Adam is our Chief Financial Officer. His first exposure to CAMP-of-the-WOODS was during the summer of 2002 when he was on the Recreation Staff. Adam fell in love with the ministry after seeing his own life changed by serving Christ while serving the guests. On Adam’s first day of work as an Accountant in 2004 he met his wife Christie, then Executive Asst. to Norm Sonju. Adam and Christie got married in Lake Placid, NY on Feb. 11th, 2006. Growing up in North Dakota, Adam enjoys pheasant, goose, and mule deer hunting. On Adam’s day off you can find him on Lake Pleasant wakeboarding or on the Kunjamuk River canoeing with Christie.

Christie Carr

Christie is our Executive Assistant and Office Manager.  She joined the full-time staff in the fall of 2001, after spending five summers on staff at Camp Tapawingo.  She grew up in Colorado and graduated from Colorado College with degrees in English and German.  She loves reading, writing, playing guitar, and being a newlywed.  She met her husband, Adam, at CAMP-of-the-WOODS in 2004, and they were married on February 11, 2006.  Christie believes strongly in GVI’s mission statement and desires to serve the Lord with an undivided heart (Psalm 86:11).

Steve Clark

Steve, our Director of Personnel, came to CAMP-of-the-WOODS in January 2003 with a great deal of Christian Camping experience. Prior to arriving in Speculator, Steve worked 14 summers and 2 ½ years full-time at another Christian Conference Center. A graduate of Houghton College, Steve focuses on serving the CAMP-of-the-WOODS full-time staff, along with recruiting, hiring, and helping to oversee the numerous Summer Staff. Steve is married to his beautiful wife Ryan who teaches kindergarten at Northville Central School.

Randy Huseland

Randy is the Director of Technology at CAMP-of-the-WOODS and has been on full-time staff since 1998 overseeing the IT, communications and Audio/Visual needs of CAMP-of-the-WOODS.  Randy grew up vacationing at CAMP-of-the-WOODS and spent the summers of 1975-1983 working here on Rec Staff, in the Tee Pee and at the Marina.  After 15 years in the banking industry, he returned to the ministry of CAMP-of-the-WOODS. Randy is our resident genius.

Mel LaScola

Mel joined our full-time staff in July ’03 as our Director of Renovations. Mel became familiar with CAMP-of-the-WOODS when his wife Laura worked in the Trading Post for 10 summers. Mel has owned his own contracting business for over 30 years and even worked as a sub-contractor for some of our renovations projects before joining the staff. In his free time, he likes to work on his classic cars. Mel is grateful for the men he has the privilege of working with and says, “Working here has brought me closer to the Lord than I’ve ever been.”

Andy Mather

Andy Mather is our Director of Guest Operations. He has been serving here at CAMP-of-the-WOODS since 1998 along with his wife Kim and their children Alexa, Spencer, and Isaac. They love serving in this capacity and are committed to upholding the Mission Statement of CAMP-of-the-WOODS. Their lives have been blessed by being here at CAMP-of-the-WOODS, and they know that our guests will experience the same blessing by being a part of this great ministry.

David Sonju

David is our Director of Ministries and leads the LIFT (Leaders in Further Training) discipleship program. He grew up coming to CAMP-of-the-WOODS and after working on staff for several summers, he joined the full-time staff in ’05. David recently got married to another long-time CAMP-of-the-WOODS staff member, Joy (Brautigam), and together they enjoy hiking, reading and eating ice cream. David is passionate about teaching and developing young Christian leaders, helping them to better understand God and His Word, and guiding them as they seek to serve the Lord with their lives.

Todd Borelli

Todd has been our full-time Sous Chef since June of 2005 and runs the Purdy Center Kitchen during the summer season. Todd came to us from Teen Challenge in Tucson, Arizona where he served as the head Chef, after graduating from the program himself. In his free time, Todd enjoys mountain biking and jumping off extremely dangerous cliffs, while making his new wife Celeste very nervous.

Ann Marie Miller

Ann Marie is our Assistant to the Food Service Director. She came to CAMP-of-the-WOODS in August of 2004 with 20 years of food service experience. She started her food service career working for Hyatt Hotels in Chicago. She then went on to manage two independently owned restaurants and a high volume coffee shop. When not serving at COTW, she is excited about her new life with her husband Jim and traveling back to the Chicago area to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She is grateful to be able to serve at a place that honors the Lord and to be an instrument of His.

Joe Tarnowski

Joe, our Executive Chef, has been with CAMP-of-the-WOODS for over six years and has 15 years of food service experience. Joe received his Bachelor’s degree in Bible from Nyack College and has worked for various food service companies throughout the northeast. Before he and his family came to CAMP-of-the-WOODS, Joe worked for Pioneer College Caterers and Aramark Food Service. He has blended his love for teaching the Bible and also serving food here at Camp, and his talents serve this ministry in a vital way.

David Kosydar

David is our Assistant to the Marketing Specialist. He is a recent addition to our full-time staff as of July ’06. While quickly gaining a reputation as “official CAMP-of-the-WOODS photographer,” he also finds time to help with the brochure, website, and Camp’s videos. Dave also helps out with guest services during the Conference Season. In his spare time, he likes to read the newspaper, ride his bike and play golf. With a black belt in Kung-fu and a degree in broadcasting, Dave wishes to see God glorified through various media outlets.

Christina Learish

Christina is our resident Marketing Specialist. She has been on the summer staff since ‘04 and joined the full-time staff in September ‘05 after graduating from Temple University in Philadelphia. When she’s not taking photos, working on a brochure or updating the website, she enjoys reading, prison ministry and hanging out with her super-cool roommates. Her desire is to show the world God’s love and awesomeness through photography. While she loves doing that in New York, her dream is to move to Africa and help orphans.

Elizabeth Myles

Elizabeth Myles serves as our Assistant to the Marketing Director, coordinating all of our weekend groups. She came on full-time staff in 2005 after graduating from Indiana Wesleyan University with a bachelor’s degree in Social Work and an emphasis in Business. Beth grew up milking cows and picking sweet corn on a dairy farm in Northern Wisconsin with her 7 younger siblings. She enjoys many hobbies, including: scrap booking, reading, sewing, enjoying the outdoors, and singing. The most important person and best friend in her life is her husband, Ryan Myles. The two just had their first baby, Chloe.

Ryan Myles

Ryan is our Recreation Director here at CAMP-of-the-WOODS. He joined our team in May ’05 after graduating from Indiana Wesleyan University and getting married to his wife, Beth. Hailing from Athens, OH, Ryan knows how to have a good time. Ryan’s good times involve camouflage, a fishing pole or some other sport. Go Buckeyes.

Cassi Cole

Cassi joined our full-time staff in March 2007. She served her first summer as a housekeeping team-leader and now keeps the housekeeping department in line as the Assistant Director. Prior to coming on full-time, Cassi participated in the LIFT program. She loves learning about God and trying to hear His voice in this really loud world. Cassi possesses a passion for photography, art and organization. She is attracted to most foreign languages and loves to travel. Her main prayer is that God will utilize her life for all that is good while taking her on a very memorable journey.

John Rustin

John serves as the Executive Housekeeper at CAMP-of-the-WOODS.  Joining the full-time staff in February ‘99, John brings a very rich background to camp.  After receiving his B.A. in Christian Education from The King’s College, he went on to work in a wide range of fields including pre-press work for various printing companies and layout for our local paper.  When he’s not spending quality time with his wife Sally and children Jonathan and Emily, he enjoys riding roller coasters, skiing, and taking pleasure in the quietness of the area.

Mike Armstrong

Mike Armstrong is a LIFT assistant director as well as the Teen Ministry program director in the summer season at CAMP-of-the-WOODS.  He was born and raised in Canada and graduated with a B.A. in Religious Studies from Tyndale University College in 2006.  He loves working with youth and is passionate about seeing Christ-followers strive to know Jesus more and love him with their lives.  Mike enjoys spending time with his most excellent wife Angie, reading, playing golf, hockey and wake-skating.

Celeste Borelli

Celeste recently joined the staff as an accountant. She moved here from Charleston, SC as the Lord led her to work in full-time ministry and begin her new ministry as a wife to Todd Borelli. She studied hospitality management and culinary arts and spent the last 9 years in food service management. Celeste loves ministering to high school students and small groups. In her spare time, if you don’t see her on the beach, she is excitedly stirring something up in the kitchen or fellowshipping with friends.

Andrew Capeci

Andrew Capeci became our Registrar in April 2005.  Prior to joining the team at CAMP-of-the-WOODS, Andrew was a Guest Service Manager for the Walt Disney World Corporation and also spent 5 years in management with Hyatt Hotels Incorporated.  Andrew is a 1997 B.S. Hospitality Management graduate of the University of Central Florida. When not serving guests, Andrew enjoys playing a variety of sports, anything that has to do with the Florida Gators and traveling.  He also enjoys fine dining and ethnic foods.

Kimberlee Grubb

Kim recently joined our full time-staff in Fall ’06 and is the Assistant Director of Camp Tapawingo. Kim is a native to southeast Pennsylvania and is a graduate of Lancaster Bible College, graduating in 2004 with a B.S. in Bible and Women in Ministry. She loves the outdoors, especially exploring and hiking God’s amazing creation. She also has a passion for helping children experience the love of Christ in the outdoor environment and comes to us with 7 years of experience in the camping ministry.

Bob Peck

Bob is one of our full-time accountants. His connection with CAMP-of-the-WOODS started with his father who was hired by ‘Pop’ in 1948. Bob was on summer staff during the summers of 1965-1972 and was hired as an accountant in October 1976. He and his wife, Judy, have two sons, one daughter and six grandchildren. His son Mike and son-in-law Dan both work in our renovations department. Bob is involved locally with Grace United Methodist Church, the Speculator Fire Dept., the Speculator Lions Club as well as our local government.

Jon Senn

Jon is our Manager of Special Projects.  He and his family moved here from Tennessee and joined the full-time staff in May ' 05.  Jon's vocations have included being a U.S. Army Infantry officer and an Occupational Therapist, among others, but now he enjoys serving in full-time ministry.  He loves spending time with his wife, Linda, and their three young children, Elijah, Emily, and Ethan.  Jon enjoys cycling, backpacking, reading, and water-skiing.  His desire is to live a life pleasing to God.

Joy Sonju

Joy joined the full-time staff in June ’06, having worked several previous summers at CAMP-of-the-WOODS. Together with her husband, David, Joy is working with the LIFT Discipleship program and staff ministries. She loves reading and learning more about God’s Word and is excited about the opportunity she has to help others grow in their understanding of biblical truth. Joy also loves hiking, mountain biking, running and spending time with her adorable nieces and nephews.

Mike Peck

Mike is a key member of our Renovations department. He was born and raised in Speculator, NY. He earned an associate's degree in construction technology from SUNY Canton and Fulton Montgomery Community college and attended Word of Life Bible Institute from 1996-1998, where he met his wife Laura. Laura attended Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA while Mike worked construction, framing houses and commercial buildings. He has served at CAMP-of-the-WOODS since 2001 and has three children:  Abigail, Lydia, and Joshua. He enjoys fishing, hunting, playing golf and spending time with his family and his church.  He is counted blessed by God.
